Technology Architect / Technical Project Manager in New York (NYC)

VML seeks a Technology Architect/Technical Project Manager to take the lead on one of their larger clients. Ideally the candidate will have .NET experience.

Job Description

Analyzes the business environment, processes, and data entities that support business requirements to create computing architecture and computing application system designs that drive computing system acquisition, development, integration, and deployment. Applies systems and software engineering methods, processes, tools, and techniques to analyze customer and information technology architecture requirements and design an application architecture that integrates application software, database, and delivery subsystems for specific applications. Develops, software, maintains, and integrates computing applications, including company-developed and commercial off-the-shelf software.

Ensures that subordinate team members possess the skills, training, and other resources required to accomplish their assigned tasks. Develops major systems plans and tactical strategies in coordination with project management team. Participates in the development and execution of program and project plans. Works with organizations responsible for defining and operating business processes and computing systems architects to produce application software design models that enable application development. Communicates with process owners, computing systems architects, systems analysts and programmers, and system and database administrators. Develops and applies systems and software engineering concepts and techniques to develop architectural deliverables for individual applications. Proposes, plans, coordinates, and provides technical leadership on architecture activities for major applications. Solves complex architecture problems using creativity, in-depth technical and theoretical knowledge, and domain expertise and experience. Communicates results to technical and nontechnical audiences.

Responsibility: Serves as primary technical liaison with customers. Consults with customers to share technology-related knowledge, business process enhancements, and best practices. Is client focused and constantly listens to the client pulse in an effort to ensure project focus is 100% accurate given the current business needs.


Promotes a sustainable technology framework and coordinates related teams. Partners with technology personnel in developing creative marketing technology solutions in support of meeting client expectations
Provides leadership in the development and implementation of short and long-term technology plans and related policies and procedures.
Anticipates significant system and industry changes, presenting information and analysis to facilitate a proactive approach to problems and opportunities.
Serves as primary technical liaison with customers. Consults with customers to share technology-related knowledge, business process enhancements, and best practices.
Participates with senior management in planning the short and long-range technology strategies for the company. Provide high-level analytical support and advise on technology-related matters.
Takes a lead role in establishing and implementing standards that will facilitate a quality IT infrastructure.
Provide technical review to help ensure projects meet cost, benefit, timeliness, and integration goals.


Knowledge and Skills:

Technical experience in physical and logical networking; user, desktop, and server support; database specifying, development, and deployment; and web development and support.
Ability to identify the practical implications of new technologies and to relate system capabilities to business goals.
Strong process and project technical system management skills.

Skills and experience in planning, developing, managing and executing short and long-range technology plans, and transitioning and transforming the delivery of information based services through the use of innovative strategies.
Skill in implementing application systems and effective, user-centered interfaces.
Demonstrated ability to solicit constructive input from and build consensus among groups and constituencies with differing priorities and perspectives.
Ability to develop policy decisions and changes as needed; ability to exercise independent judgment in problem solving, remain objective, and represent differing points of view.
Ability to work on multiple complex tasks against deadlines and shifting priorities. Comfort in dealing with uncertainty, ambiguity and change.



Skills and Characteristics


Technical Experience and Background: They will have had previous exposure to and will have been deeply engaged in various stages of the SDLC. Have had experience performing in various roles throughout the SDLC, for example, Developer, Designer (BSA), or Tester. Having this experience provides the individual with a different vision into the necessities, complications, and challenges and can define solutions enabling the teams to overcome these barriers to successfully deliver an engagement.
Strong Leadership Skills: This individual will have displayed strong leadership skills and have successfully performed leadership roles at the team and engagement level. They have provided guidance, suggestions, and feedback to individuals, teams, and clients to ensure successful delivery. This individual will have had specific experience leading technical resources and engagements.
Strong Communication Skills: These individuals have proven the ability to speak confidentially in various situations with the client, within the PSD team, and within fellow VML teams. They are comfortable speaking at an individual and group level. They have the ability to filter and present the appropriate information to the appropriate people at the right time. They can communicate positive and negative information efficiently, attempting to turn negatives into positives.
Strong Management Skills: These individuals have a proven track regard in managing workload, deliverables, schedules, etc at both an individual and team level. They have the ability to get the right tasks in the right hands and see it through to completion.
Strong Decision Making Skills: These individuals have the ability to make critical task, engagement, and business decisions. They have the ability to identify and gather the appropriate information and facts to make these decisions. They have the ability to effectively communication the decision and support for their decision to the appropriate audience. They have the ability to make these decisions instantaneously when required to provide direction for a task or engagement
VML or Similar Process Knowledge: The individuals have a working knowledge of the VML 5-D process or similar software engineering development process.
Education and Experience: Prefer a bachelors degree appropriate to supported area or in computer science and 12 years experience or 5 to 10 years of project execution and management experience and well-developed client skills. Masters degree is a plus.
